Introducing NBA Projections

In evaluating players in the NBA D-League, a key question is how they would perform in the NBA as they face tougher competition in a slower paced game while playing fewer minutes.

With the introduction of NBA Projections -- derived using insights from SAP and by running complex formulas through the Hana tool -- we can now estimate a player's production in the NBA based on how they have performed in its official minor league.

Biological Splash Brothers

Lighting up the NBA Development League with the Erie BayHawks this season, Seth Curry is proving once again that sweet shooting strokes and nifty ball handling skills run in the family.

The younger Curry brother has essentially become a minor-league version of his superstar sibling, leading NBADL prospects at 26.3 points per game and a blistering 53% mark from beyond the arc.

Go inside the numbers to see just how hot Seth got, how he stacks up with big brother Steph, and what it means for his NBA hopes.

View Stats

Hassan Whiteside

Miami Heat

Whiteside's winding road to Miami took him through four different stops in the NBA D-League, adding up to 65 games over four seasons. But the most important were the three games he played to open the 2014-15 season, when his 66 points (30/35 FG), 47 rebounds and 16 blocks convinced the Heat to call him up from the Iowa Energy.

More Stats

Rudy Gobert

Utah Jazz

The massive French center played eight games with the Bakersfield Jam as a rookie, averaging 13.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks. In some foreshadowing of his 2014-15 breakout, Gobert dominated in two games at the 2014 NBA D-League Showcase, posting 30 points, 23 rebounds and 4 blocks in just 47 total minutes.

More Stats

Danny Green

San Antonio Spurs

In March 2011, Danny Green was a Reno Bighorns wing who had been cut by two NBA teams. But the Spurs, who had cut him four months earlier, liked what they saw as he shot 44% from three and averaged 20.1 points in 17 games, and decided to give him another shot. Within three years, he was putting on a show in the NBA Finals.

More Stats

Gerald Green

Phoenix Suns

Before joining the L.A. D-Fenders in 2011, Green had never lift up to the lofty expectations placed upon him as a first-round NBA Draft pick out of high school. But he left L.A. with a new outlook and a refined game, joining the Nets and eventually becoming a breakout sixth man in Phoenix.

More Stats

Jeremy Lin

Los Angeles Lakers

In perhaps the most famous NBA D-League alumni story, Lin spent much of the 2010-11 season with the Reno Bighorns as he worked his way to the NBA out of Harvard. Before Linsanity struck the next year, the point guard showcased his potential with Reno (18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists) alongside fellow future NBA players Danny Green and Steve Novak.

More Stats

Shabazz Muhammad

Minnesota Timberwolves

Just a year ago, Muhammad was a struggling rookie first-round pick. But an NBA D-League assignment right in time for the 2014 Showcase in his home state of Nevada seemed to re-energize him, and looking back the 22-year-old forward has credited that four-game stretch with turning around his young career.
